A healing practice that you can learn on your own:  Tai Chi.  Tai Chi takes commitment, as it is best learned in a class environment, normally taking several months to learn all 108 basic moves.  However, it's common to begin noticing benefits long before you complete the entire sequence!  As well, Tai Chi is a life-long process;  there is always room for "progression" within each movement, and within the practice as a whole.  When you walk into a Tai Chi classroom, you might notice the feeling of the "energy" of the space, and you will benefit as much from the people you meet there, as from the exercise itself.

A modality with which I had a particularly "profound" healing experience:  Chi Nei Tsang, which is a compontent of Traditional Chinese Medicine and involves visceral massage combined with breathing techniques.

A modality that I would not hesitate to recommend to others as being particularly effective:  Bodytalk, which similar to QT, uses a method of questioning the body to scan certain fields, identifying which issues are priority and determining the correct order for healing.
Most definitely, the contents of this site and the way
they are presented, quite strongly reflect me as a
person and the beliefs and values that I hold.   All that
you see here is basically a culmination of my own
personal healing process to date.  My knowledge
and understanding, and my sense of self, continue
to change and develop as I progress, and every
person I encounter is a part of that.  It’s really all about learning from yourself - particularly what you would normally call your darkest moments, or worst parts - and finding ways to accept and own all of that.  It’s who you are, and it’s through the honest, authentic acknowledgement of that, that you start to become who you want to be...

My journey into alternative healing, and to wellness, began with chiropractic and homeopathyI had never before been introduced to the idea of NOT taking medication at the first sign of discomfort, or the concept that my body was just doing what needed to be done.  The idea of treating an entire person rather than individual symptoms intrigued me, and the possibilities of whole-body wellness really caught my attention and my interest.  To put it simply, I was drawn to "healing" quite strongly, and dove in head first in a way that quite surprised both my family, and myself.

At first, it was mainly in the interest of my own well-being, and that of my family, that I began to research,  read about, explore, and experience a multitude of natural healing practices.  It eventually became apparent to me that the purpose of healing work, though important for self-treatment, lies in the sharing with others.

I have had some experience with several natural healing methods over the years, and the modalities that have had the greatest effect on me personally are of course the ones I have training in:

I can't say I have a favourite modality.  I'm a huge proponent of people becoming intimately involved in their own healing processes, so I see the self-treating aspects of both Reiki and EFT as very empowering, enabling one to create healing opportunities in a very dramatic and lasting way.   However, I thoroughly appreciate hands-on treatments, and how some of issues can best be accessed through the tissues, with a therapist/practitioner holding that 'space'.

I also recognize that there are a number of choices out there, and that different methods can have varying effects with different people.  It's important to go with what draws you, or what 'makes sense' to you.  In this regard, I'd like to mention three additional modalities, as possible options for you:

CranioSacral Therapy (CST):  I took CST 1 in 2007, and continued in the curriculum with CST 2 and SER 1, after which I applied and was accepted to be a Teaching Assistant for CST 1.  I am also in the process of getting my Techniques Certification (which covers material presented in CST 1&2)

Somato Emotional Release (SER):  I have taken SER 1, as part of the CST curriculum, and certainly plan to continue with SER 2 and eventually CST Advanced.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT):  I was first introduced to EFT in the fall of 2007 and have been using it on myself and my kids on a daily basis since then.  My training consists of the DVD Video Series featuring founder Gary Craig.

Quantum Techniques (QT):   QT is a sister to EFT and I have some training in the basic principles of Dr. Stephen and Beth Daniel's work by virtue of their Basic Foundations 1 Practitioner Series DVD.

Reiki:  I first took Usui Reiki Level 1 in 2006 and over the following two years continued with classes, receiving Usui Reiki Master training.  I have taught Usui Reiki at Level 1 as well as the ADV/Master level.  I also received attunements to all six levels of Lightarian Reiki, and it has been an honour to pass those attunements on to others as well.
