Self-Testing is a means of performing muscle testing (Applied Kinesiology) on yourself. Knowing that the human body behaves as any other energy circuit does, you can use physical muscle responses as a direct indication of the "health" of your energy field. In this way, the effect that something (any energy) has on your system can be measured.
When energy flows freely, the muscle will remain strong, and the response is “yes” or “good” or “true.” When there is an energy disturbance, the electrical connection to the muscle will be disrupted and the muscle will not be able to hold strong, despite maintaining the same level of effort or resistance. This indicates an answer of “no” or “bad” or “false.”
You can think of it as a means of direct communication with your body, your "higher self," your "inner wisdom," or your subconscious. It is a way of going beyond logical, conscious thinking processes which can occasionally be tarnished by:

- what we have been told is good for us

- wishful thinking

- social expectations

- denial, etc.
Essentially, Self-Testing is a way to tap into your "Truth." Through self-testing techniques, you can get a True/False answer for anything you can think to ask.
NOTE: Since the initial launch of this site, I was introduced to the critique that self-testing of this type is "simply the ideomotor affect at work." To read my views and understanding of ideomotor effect, its significance, and how it all fits in with intuition, please click here.
Try a number of different methods, listed below, to find the one that works best for you. The idea is to isolate one single muscle, and become aware of the first sign of tension in that muscle - that is your "no" response. Be sure to be consistent with the amount of pressure/effort/resistance that you use. It sometimes helps to practice with your eyes closed. Work with it until you can easily discern the difference between "strong" and "weak" for you. It can be very subtle.
Depending on how you wish to use self-testing, you may prefer one-handed techniques to those requiring both hands. There is no magic to which method to use. When you find one that works, stick with it.
When you are practicing, use statements that you know the answer to:
"Show me yes." "Show me no."
"Show me true." "Show me false."
"I am a woman." "I am a man."
"My name is Bozo." "My name is Your Name"
When you begin using your method for testing, begin with issues for which there is no emotional attachment or involvement, thereby decreasing the chances of affecting your outcome consciously.
ie: I should have chicken for supper. I should have fish for supper.
not: I should eat that chocolate. I should not eat that chocolate. (Simply because chocolate is a food known to ellicite cravings/addictive tendencies, indicating that there could be several layers to the question)
Once you are confident of your testing method, you can move on to other issues. You are limited only by your imagination!
As with any skill, you have to practice diligently to become adept at muscle testing. If one person can develop the ability to do it, anyone can do it. Try and try and try! Even if you doubt yourself (or if others doubt you!) continue with it, and eventually you will reach an "Aha!" moment where it all falls into place.
Testing Techniques
O-ring Test
Form an "O" by touching one of your fingers to the end of your thumb. If you are particularly strong, form the "O" with your little finger. Consistently maintain the same amount of pressure between finger and thumb. Place the index finger of your other hand inside the "O." Make your statement, ie "Show me yes" and try to pull your index finger through the "O." In this case, the result should be "strong" in that you should not be able to break the "O." Keeping the same degree of pressure, again place the index finger of the other hand inside the "O" and make another statement, ie "Show me no." When you try to pull your finger through the "O," the response should be "weak" and you should be able to break the" O."
Variation of O-ring Test
Again, form the "O" with one hand. This time place the thumb and forefinger of the opposite hand within the "O", and try to break it by spreading the thumb and forefinger of the "testing" hand. If you are able to break the "O", the response is weak, if you are unable to break the "O" the response is strong. Try changing which hand forms the "O" and which hand does the test.
Hand Flip Test
Keep the fingers of your hand flat and together while bending back at the wrist. Place your forearm and palm flat on a desktop or other flat surface. See how far you can bed your hand back at the wrist for a "Yes" or strong response, and repeat for a "No" or weak response. There should be a noticeable difference between the outcome of the two statements.
Thumbs-Up Test
Lock the elbow of either arm, and make a fist with the thumb up, much like an artist looking past their thumb at a landscape. Turn the thumb all the way to the left (as far as you can go without forcing it) while saying a strong, "yes" statement. Put the thumb back to the thumbs up position, and then turn it all the way to the left once more while saying a weak, "no" statement. There should be a noticeable difference between the outcomes of the two statements.
Thumb Lift Test
Hold your hand in a loose fist, with the thumb resting on top. Raise your thumb up while saying a strong, "yes" statement. Lay the thumb down once more and try to raise it again while saying a weak, "no" statement. There should be a noticeable difference between the outcomes of the two statements.
Finger Slide Test
This is a very inconspicuous test. While making your statement, try sliding the pad of your index finger across the nail of your thumb. If the response is strong, or "yes" your finger pad will slide easily across the thumbnail. When the response is weak, or "no" the finger will stops abruptly in the middle of the nail.
Swallow Test
Try swallowing. Immediately after saying a weak, "no" statement, you will have a hard time swallowing, as if there is a knot in your throat that won't go down. Immediately after saying a strong, "yes" statement, you will be able to swallow with ease.
Other body responses.
Pay attention to any other body responses that may be happening for you. I know of one individual who would gauge yes and no by tangible (sometimes audible) responses in her belly. For myself, I once used a pendulum, until I realized that every time my pendulum started to indicate yes, I would simultaneously have a deep "sigh" breath. I soon got to the point that I would rely on my breath response without having to use the pendulum. And now I can just perceive what a yes or no "feels" like in my body.
If you cannot master any of these techniques, there are extensive Self-Testing DVD's available from the Quantum Techniques website entitled "Truth Techniques."
To correct the reversal: Tap the side of your hand (karate-chop point) 5 times

AND/OR Tap under your nose 5 times
Re-test using the same two statements. If you are still reversed, ie, the correction did not work, do a complete round of EFT using the phrasing "Even though I am reversed, and have many important reasons to be reversed, somehow I deeply and completely accept myself." Re-test using the same initial two statements above. If you continue to be reversed, it may be that you are currently in contact with (or inhaling) some substance that acts as a toxin for you, or you could be affected by EMF (electro-magnetic frequencies). Remove yourself to another room or environment, and re-test.
Once the correction has been done, it is important to maintain it throughout testing. You can prevent further reversal by placing the fingertips of one hand on the abdomen, two inches above the navel.
Test and Correct EMF Reversal
To test for reversal due to EMF (electro-magnetic frequencies), place your open hand a few inches away from the side of your head, palm towards your ear. Maintaining this hand position, make the following statements:

"I want to be healthy"
"I want to be sick"
The first statement should test strong, and the second statement should test weak. Any other responses indicate Reversal due to EMF.
To correct the reversal: With fingers slightly spread, tap the side of your head (temporal) above the ear with the tips of all fingers several times.
Re-test, using the same original hand position and statements. (It is a good idea to do the correction for EMF reversal periodically throughout the day, particularly after using a computer/cell-phone.)
Test and Correct for Hydration
Lack of proper hydration will have an adverse affect on the electrical connection to the muscle, affecting your responses. To test for hydration, loosely cup one hand, fingers open, over your navel. With your hand in this position, make the following statements:
"I want to be healthy."
The first statement should test strong, and the second
statement should test weak. Any other responses indicate
insufficient hydration.
To correct for hydration: drink a cup of water.
Re-test, using the same hand position and statements. If
your body is still indicating lack of hydration, drink more
water until the test is accurate.
Test for Accuracy Blocks
To do this test, make the statement: "I am 100% over any blocks to accurate testing."
This statement should test strong. If not, you are experiencing blocks to accurate testing.
To correct this: tap the side of your hand (karate-chop point) and/or under nose five times.
Re-test, using the same statement. If you still test weak, you can do a round of EFT using "Even though I am not 100% over all blocks to accurate testing, somehow I accept myself deeply, completely and profoundly."
Test for Deception
To do this test, make the statement: "I am 100% over any deception in my testing."
This statement should test strong. If not, you are experiencing deception in your testing.
To correct this: state out loud the following affirmation "In the name and power of truth and love, I command all deception to leave and never return."
Re-test, using the same statement. If you still test weak, repeat the affirmation with more conviction.
Following these tests and corrections, you can be confident of the accuracy of your responses.

100% rule: If you do not specifically ask for 100% of whatever you’re asking about, your answers could reflect as little as 51% of the information you need.
Statements: It sometimes works best to access information by formulating statements rather than questions. Rather than asking "Is it best that I...?" where the answer can potentially be in the grey zone of maybe, between yes and no, say, "It is best that I..." In this case, your strong or weak response will indicate True or False. (The difference is that something must be 100% true in order to be True, as opposed to the potentially 51% answer indicated above.)
Wording: When you get an answer that seems inconsistent (and you've followed all of the tests and corrections for accuracy) check your wording. The subconscious is very literal and you need to be specific.
Degrees: Even when dealing with True and False responses, it is possible to determine the degrees or percentages. You can "count up" until you get your True response. For example, if testing for dosage of supplements:
"A single dose of this substance for me is 1 capsule."

"... more than 1 capsule." "...more than 2 capsules," etc
"I will receive 90-100% benefit from..."

"...80-90% benefit." "...70-80% benefit," etc
Test for Substances: As indicated on the Body Energy page, some substances may have the effect of Reversing your polarity. If this is the case, the substance will actually test strong when in fact it acts as a toxin for you. To accurately test for substances (food, supplements, beauty products, etc) do the following:
Hold the substance. (Should test Strong.)
Hold the substance, say "I want to be healthy." (Should test Strong.)
Hold the substance, say "I want to be sick." (Should test weak.)
If you get any other responses, the substance should be avoided at this time.
Test your Foods: Before you eat any meal, you can test it by stating:
"Everything on this plate, I am healthy" (Should test strong)
"Everything on this plate, I am sick" (Should test weak)
If you get any other responses, isolate the foods on the plate to determine what you should avoid eating at this time.
***NOTE: If something tests weak for you, it may not necessarily be a toxin. It is best to test everything rather than assume that just because something tested weak for you once it will always test weak. It could be that your current stress load is such that your body can't tolerate it right now, or perhaps that particular sample of salad dressing is contaminated with bacteria, or simply that is not the nutrition required by your body at this time.... or any other number of reasons.
Practice: practice, practice! Use self-testing for everything: What to eat for supper, soup or salad. Which route to take to work, X road or the Y bridge. Which colour to paint the kitchen, yellows or blues. Which supplement to buy, A brand or B brand. The possibilities are endless.
Follow Through: Heed the answers that you get from self-testing. It is important to be receptive to keep communication lines open.
Self-Testing is very empowering.
We are always being told "this is good for you."
It seems impossible to know what's best for YOU, and your unique needs.
The beauty of self-testing is that you don't have to decide, you can let your body tell you what benefits you at this time.
"Knowledge does not mean it is true,
it is just what you know."

Test and Correct Polarity Reversal

Other means of testing:
Pendulum
You only need a paperclip, a string, and a piece of paper. The article Letter to Robin will teach you all you need to know about using a pendulum.
Sway test
In essence, this test is a way of using your body as a pendulum. Stand up straight with your feet together. Place one hand over your heart, and then place your other hand crossing the first. Close your eyes. Make your strong, "yes", statement and notice how your body gently sways forward. Return to your neutral position, make your weak, "no" statement, and notice how your body sways gently backward.
Red light, Green light
You can establish for yourself that Red light is "no" and Green light is "yes" simply through intention. For many of us, this is ingrained already. When you make your strong, "yes", statement, keep open to any "impression" of a green light. Some people see the colour green. When you make your weak, "no", statement, keep open to what comes to you for red light.
"In time intuitions will begin popping into your mind and you will know the answer before even doing the [muscle] test. The more you trust and go with these intuitions the stronger and quicker your inner knowing will awaken to guide you..."
"Don't second guess. Don't doubt. When the opportunity is there, when the impulse is there, when the intuitive nudge from within is there, act. That's your job. That's all you have to do."
